My name is Rikke Astrid Hansen, and I am the artist behind Studio Rikke Astrid.

I am a printmaker with a wide-ranging interest in visual art. I explore different forms of expression, but often return to the dark, the strange and the mysterious — and especially to the women who inhabit stories: the wise, the seekers and those who forge their own paths. I am drawn to the strength and intuition they embody.

In my studio, I explore how ideas take shape through different techniques and materials. My particular focus is electro-etching and non-toxic processes in intaglio printmaking. For me, this is not a matter of dogma, but a considered choice of methods that offer a better alternative for the way I want to work.

The marks and textures of the plate, the surface of the paper, the character of the colour, the pressure of the press and the variations between impressions all contribute to the finished work. Technique is part of the narrative. I do not always try to remove every trace of the process; often, it is the meeting between intention and the unexpected that gives an image its direction.
